Our Heritage

A Little About Us

The Hobart City Brass Band was formed in 2007 as the Hobart City Junior Brass Band. The Band competed in the Tasmanian Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, taking out the title of Tasmanian Junior B-Grade Brass Champion each year. Brass Band is conducted by Robyn Males.

Excellence in brass

The Band was also the 2010 National Junior B-Grade Brass Champion. In 2016 the Band refocused and started performing and competing as a D Grade Brass Band. Hobart City Brass Band competed in the Tasmanian Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, taking out the title of Tasmanian Junior B-Grade Brass Champion each year.

The Hobart Brass Band recorded Two Places, composed by Musical Director for Hobart City Bands Inc., Simon Reade as one of their projects works. The Hobart Brass Band has grown from a small ensemble to winning state champions in Junior B grade ensemble to winning state open D and C grade championships along with 2nd place in open D grade on a National level.

The band performs at concerts, competitions, eisteddfods, school fairs The band rehearses Wednesday evenings 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Hobart City High School – New Town Campus and is always welcoming to new members.

We have ensembles suitable for all ages, musical interests, and skill levels, with our member’s ages ranging from 12 years to over 60. We are always ready to welcome new members to our musical family.

Hobart City Band Inc. is run by the Executive Committee, elected annually at the Annual General Meeting by Hobart City Band Inc. members. All Committtee Members participate in a voluntary capacity. Specialist conductors are employed. We are financed by annual membership fees, fund-raising, ensemble-hiring fees, occasional community grants, prizes and donations.
